The first week of university is an important time for students. Frosh week, or Orientation Week can set the tone for your next four years. The week is not only an opportunity to learn your new school’s cheers, but is a great way to meet new friends, gain new experiences and learn to love your school!

Step Outside Your Comfort Zone

For many, going to university is the first time you’ve been away from home, the first time you’ve had to fend for yourself. It’s your big test of independence and a rollercoaster of emotions. To get the most out of orientation week, embrace this unfamiliarity and push yourself out of your comfort zone. Plus, when everyone is making a fool out of themselves, it makes getting in touch with your silly side a little easier!

Explore New Surroundings

Frosh week is a great opportunity to explore your new home. Get a copy of your class schedule and walk from one building to another, mapping out the best route between classes. Find the library and scout out the best café on campus. If you’re going to school away from home, go beyond campus boundaries and discover your new community. Find the best greasy spoon, the best pizza hangout and the best food truck for your late night poutine fix.

Be Friendly

Frosh week is not a time to be shy. Say hello to the person behind you in line at the coffee kiosk. Remember, during frosh week, everyone is just as new and nervous as you are. It’s time to meet new friends, discover special interest clubs, school associations and sports teams. Remember, socializing is just as much a part of the university experience as lectures and exams. Go to as many orientation events as you can and take advantage of the opportunities to bond with your schoolmates before the stress of coursework and exams falls on you.
