How to Take Body Measurements for a Perfect Fit

When it comes to custom branded apparel, getting the right fit matters just as much as getting the design right. Whether you're ordering uniforms for your team, event wear for staff, or spirit wear for your school, sizing plays a key role in how your apparel feels and looks.

At Entripy, we start with premium blank apparel and transform it with your custom design—but to help you choose the right size, accurate measurements are essential. Here’s a simple guide to help you (or your team) measure up the right way, so your gear—from tees and hoodies to dress shirts, workwear, and jackets—fits as expected from day one.

Key Body Measurements to Take

These are the typical measurements used to determine sizing across a wide range of custom apparel—from casual wear to uniforms, outerwear, and caps. Use a flexible measuring tape, and when in doubt, round up slightly for comfort.

1. Chest

How to Measure:
Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your chest, just under your arms and across your shoulder blades. Keep the tape snug but not tight.

Tip: Do this while standing naturally with your arms relaxed at your sides.

2. Body Length

How to Measure:
Start at the highest point of the shoulder (next to the neck) and measure straight down to where you want the shirt or hoodie to end—usually just below the waist.

Tip: For dress shirts or uniform wear, consider where you’ll tuck or layer.

3. Sleeve Length

How to Measure:
Start at the center back of the neck. Measure across the shoulder, down the arm to the wrist. Bend the arm slightly at the elbow to get a natural fit.

Tip: Sleeve length is especially important for work jackets and professional wear to ensure mobility and coverage.

4. Pant Length

How to Measure:
Measure from the top of the waistband down the outside of the leg to the desired hem point—typically at the ankle.

Tip: Wear your usual footwear while measuring for better accuracy.

5. Inseam (for Pants or Shorts)

How to Measure:
Measure from the top of the inner thigh (crotch) to the bottom hem of the pants or shorts.

Tip: Use a pair of pants that already fit well and measure their inseam for a quick reference.

6. Sports Jersey Size

How to Measure:
Follow standard chest and body length measurements but note that jerseys often run larger to accommodate layering. Always refer to the sizing chart provided for each brand or jersey style.

Tip: Consider ordering a size up if jerseys will be worn over padding or other layers.

7. Cap Size

How to Measure:
Wrap the tape around your head just above the ears and eyebrows—where a hat would naturally sit.

Tip: Compare this measurement to the sizing guide for your chosen cap style.

Why Accurate Sizing Matters for Custom Orders

Because every piece of branded apparel is made to order, we want to help you get as close to the right fit as possible. Taking time to measure upfront helps reduce surprises—especially for items like dress shirts, jackets, and workwear where a proper fit adds to professionalism and comfort.

Bonus Tip: Refer to the Brand’s Size Chart

Every blank apparel supplier (like Gildan, Nike, Bella+Canvas, Flexfit, etc.) has its own sizing guide. Once you’ve taken measurements, cross-reference them with the specific item’s size chart. If you’re unsure, we’re always here to help guide you through it.
